Mike studied for his
carpentry apprenticeship in his home town of Waikato, New Zealand and has
now been involved in the building industry for ten years gaining a wealth of
experience in this time. He first decided to study carpentry because wood
work was always his favourite subject when he was at school.
The thing Mike enjoys
the most about the building industry is that you are always learning. He
says “There are always new systems and ways of doing things, each project
you work in will always teach you something new”.
On his present job at
Wiseton Road Mike has particularly enjoyed the steelwork structure to the
rear of the building. The sequencing and management of this work in a
limited time period was extremely challenging but also very enjoyable.
Mike has construction
experience in New Zealand, Australia, the United States and the UK. His wide
range of experiences has allowed him to gather knowledge on building
practices from all over the world and use this knowledge to find the most
practical of solutions.
While working in
Australia he was the project manager for the construction of the steel
framework for 17 new build houses. He was also self-employed during his time
in the United States. Here he specialized in residential loft conversions.
Mike’s hobbies are
playing and watching rugby. He also has a passion for classic cars and owns
a Holden Monaro in New Zealand.
